I have been doing lessons for the Salsa for about 5 or 6 weeks.  I am finding that the ladies that started the same time as I have with these lessons are further ahead in learning the moves.  Experienced Salsa dancers are putting these ladies through alot of turns that I cannot.  It's a bit frustrating to lead this dance with little experience, especially in the intermediate level.  So I am seeking another instructor (female instead of male) to help speed up the learning experience.  Has anyone else had this problem when beginning to learn the Salsa dance?

Usually guys have a longer learning curve because they have to the leading. So don't feel discouraged. It takes time. Just take the time to really learn how to lead every single move and practice, practice, parctice…. I would alos recommend private lessons with female or male instructor to really move faster.

Roger, First of all I want to congratulate you on decision to become a better dancer. And at this point your frustration is very much understandable. Remember It will get worst before it gets better. Recently I read from the book that saying: “practice makes perfect” is not correct, ( weird, that used to be one of my main lines for students of all levels) Instead you need to do Perfect practice!. Perfect practice makes perfect!  When you are in the class or by yourself at home and you are taking your time to practice, make it like it was your last rehearsal before the dance show! Oh yeah! Of course the more often you do it , the less problem it will become. You might ask, how can I practice the lead without partner?! Answer: Easy…Get a broom or a chair … hold it right in front of you, and imagine it is a partner…It is all in the head! If you know how it supposed to work in your head, you can do it with your hands also!
