Learn the Salsa underarm turn in this video dance lesson. I am using a new microphone here so the sound should be better. This step is challenging for the ladies as they need to develop good balance for their turns. For the guys the actual step is very basic but requires a solid lead which I explain in great detail. Make sure to watch the last section where I talk about the most common mistakes people make when dancing this underarm turn and how you can avoid them.

The turn is the same in cha-cha too?
Hey Kristin,
No the turn in Cha Cha is a little different actually.. I will make the Cha Cha turn lesson very soon and then you will see.
Leon
Thanks for posting the videos Leon. I am enjoying and applying them when I go dancing, looking forward for more videos . Are you going to post Ballroom videos also, or strictly Latin.
Hey Claudio,
I am glad you are liking the videos! And to answer your question, for the near future I will concentrate on Latin dance videos only. Mainly Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba, Merengue, Swing, Rumba and Technique. Maybe after that I will do some Ballroom videos as well.
Thanks
A really well-thought out instructional video, Leon – so many points and tips for
both partners – worth watching and practising to, several times!
Please offer another video for the Ladies’ left turn!
Also Leon, what about the Gentleman’s Right Turn, to follow the Ladies Right turn shown in the above Video?
Hey Ray,
Glad you enjoyed it. I will do Lady’s left turn sometime in the future…As for man’s right turn, I just finished shooting it last week. I will finish editing it soon and upload it.
The video is excellent, very well done, thank you.
Why does the lead for this turn use the “J” arm movement rather than the “open break” we learned in class?
Hey Mark,
This is a simple right turn from a basic. So a “J” lead is very suitable.
If you are doing it from a crossbody lead and open break it would be different.
Depending on where you are coming from, the lead may differ.
wow this is great – was looking for websites and this is one where the good reviews were actually true. look forward to more videos
Excellent video with good close shots of feet position. Thanks this will aid me with my classes.

This video was very instructional. It helps us apply everything in class. If I can give a little criticism on the video. It is very specific, which is great, just be careful when you are talking not to say uhm too much. I’m no pro, just trying to help.
