Marc says
Different people have different ways of describing these beats. I’m still a beginner, but it seems to me that the 4 beats in a Cha-Cha are more like 1-2-CHA-CHA-4 aren’t they?
Leon Turetsky says
Hi Marc,
No the way we count the Cha Cha is “1,2,3 Cha Cha” and repeat.
As the video demonstrates the most important thing is to understand the beat value of the counts… the “cha” is only half of the beat. While the 1,2,3 are all full beats.
Christine says
Hi Leon,
I am 49 years old, have always been loving to learn ballroom dancing… but I am so clumsy, have no clue or background of any knowledge about any steps in any type of dances…and I am also a very intimidated person and shy, I am afraid of attending dancing classes, I watched your free video in my mail, but still couldn’t figure out the next move…[ I guessed I am okay dancing by myself; but I don’t know the steps when with a partner], and on top, my husband is a good dancer; but he never wants to teach me, and never wants me to go to dance classes because he has a very narrow mind of an old fashion guy…I only want to learn to prove to him even if he never wants to teach me, I still can do it, but it has been for 25 years I tried but still could never get the idea of what to do.:(
Leon Turetsky says
Hi Christine, did you join as a member? When you do you can can learn each dance step by step from the beginning!
Ferdinand Pereira says
Hi Leon, We have been browsing your site and find that your sessions are very well explained. We live in India. We are near- senior, never seriously tried dancing before. We have been trying to get a hang of one sample – the cha-cha-cha. We need a couple of weeks more to decide if we go ahead or not. Till then, thanks. Ferdy.

Lovely lessons every now and then. Leon and Kim are amiable, with their Tango, Cha-Cha and Waltz among other dances. They always portray the dance lessons beautifully. Thank you for sharing, you are doing an amazing dance lessons for us. I am glad I signed the yearly membership. Keep up the Passion 4 Dancing, I am delighted that you are my teachers.

Thanks so much Leon – this is really great getting tips like these online straight away. Wow. You are so right : The timing is important because exactly as you say: dancing is expressing yourself to music. I am so glad I found your website. You speak my language … DANCING 🙂 . The Cha Cha used to frustrate me but the way Kim keeps it simple and clear, I think I’ve found what I’ve been doing wrong and it feels completely different now that I’ve copied her technique. I’ve heard it many times at lessons but somehow the way you show it on video makes it clear – thank you!
To anyone who might hesitate to learn how to dance …. just do it and keep at it. Once it ‘clicks’ you will feel like a zillion dollars. With these online lessons of Leon’s you don’t have to fake it till you make it – you can do it right, right from the word go. Hope to be a member soon!

Was really looking forward to my 5 free lessons. Unfortunately could not play them on my computer, no matter how much I try. I was very disappointed. 🙁
Leon Turetsky says
Brunhilde Massa, I just sent you an email regarding this. Please discuss any technical details directly via email. It is most likely something with your browser. Try chrome or firefox.

Thanks for your free lessons . Very easy to understand , clear and complete . I am interested only in salsa dancing , the social type . Can I buy only salsa lessons at a lower price .? I just retired and live an a reduced pension and I discovered salsa approx. 5mo ago . Sorry you are not in Calofornia . I have big problems with turns and looking on the computer ,I found that every instructor has a different way of doing it . How do I know which is simpler to do for an older person with not too good equilibrium and speed . I have problems spoting , too. Please help! Thank you . Rodica
Leon Turetsky says
Hi Rodica,
If you are only interested in Salsa you can subscribe for our monthly plan that gives you access to all our lessons including Salsa and you can cancel at anytime. Here are the plans: https://www.passion4dancing.com/membership-info/

I’m learning in Thailand so it’s useful to have your English explanations to supplement those of my Thai instructor, who speaks no English.
Sharon says
Thanks.. your free lessons are very clear and amazing but .before I sign up for the membership i just want to make sure that i master the beginners steps first. .Do you have DVD videos that i can buy. . then i can practise in front of the TV.
MattOwensRees says
Originally, Sharon, I thought the same. Get the basic steps right first then join up. But I changed my mind and became a full member straight away.
There are some good technique videos that are only available to members on the yearly plan. One on posture, one on changing weight from foot to foot. And the Cuban Motion videos were particularly helpful in the Cha Cha. All useful for getting the steps looking correct.
What I did not want to do is just learn the steps and then have to “unlearn” any bad habits I had on foot and body movement.
I practice 1 hour a day in front of the TV with the P4D videos and at group classes twice a week
Leon Turetsky says
Thanks Matt, glad you find value in our videos!
While we do not offer DVDs at the moment, all our videos are view-able online and we also offer a download add-on (one time payment for yearly members) for our videos which you can get and burn them on a dvd for example to watch on tv.
Another option is just get an HDMI cable to hook up your computer to TV and you can watch our lessons on tv this way without any dvds.
Martha says
Hi Leon, The year starts the date you join and goes to the same date for the following year. Correct?
MattOwensRees says
I was replying to Sharon, Leon. I am quite happy not having dvds
My point was the importance of watching MORE THAN the free videos
Roy says

What is the timing for the waltz?
Leon Turetsky says
Timing for waltz is 1,2,3, all equal beats.
Jim Rester says
Thank you, that was helpful, especially visualizing what you are going to do before you get on the dance floor
Dona Handy says
Thank you Leon. I am currently isolated because of the
COVID -19. I have been checking put your free lessons and am very impressed! I will be out of isolation at the end of the month and will be enrolling in your full program. Thank you again forth is chance to really learn to dance.
Mary says
Hi Leon-I attended some of your group sessions before Covid. Are you offering them again?
James says
Love your video on beginner Salsa.
We go to ‘Live’ Band dances,
What songs should I ask them to learn/play that are good to dance Salsa and or Cha Cha. ?
Some times there is a DJ, so we can ask him to play certain songs that are good for dancing also. Easy for him, to just enter
the name of the song in the computer !
Thanks
