Great tip thank you Leon.
Though I am hardly advanced, I am an ‘older’ learner and am getting better. Was actually just trying to figure out how best to structure practice as it has been a bit overwhelming trying to practice everything. The constant focus on weaknesses can be a little disheartening.
thank you.
Leon, that is such a good reminder. As a teacher myself (not of dance!) I often have to encourage my students to make the most of their strengths although clearly not to ignore their weaknesses. That mindset also gives you permission to enjoy the things you can do well and not worry too much about those you struggle with especially in the early stages of learning, whether that be dancing or another activity.
As a returning dancer after a lay-off of over 50 years and now with a lot of knee damage I try to enjoy doing the basics really well and not get too het up remembering every new step I am taught. As a result I often review your basic lessons even though I have been dancing again for nearly 5 years.
Hi Nigel, nice! I find it very interesting that it’s the advanced dancers that like to master the basics even more – they understand that foundation is everything!

True, you got to mix it up in your practice so it doesn’t get overwhelming…
